Essential Oils are a wonderful tool to support us in times of transition and change. The change of seasons is a great time to explore different aromas and combinations and if Autumn hits particularly hard then this blend may bring some comfort.
The descent into more hours of darkness can be challenging if you’re prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder but there is also something lovely about digging out the cosy jumpers and blankets and snuggling on the sofa with a hot drink and a favourite film.
The Autumn colours are glorious if we have blue skies but when everything seems grey and damp, the falling leaves can bring a gloomy mood. Or maybe seeing the trees “let go” in a show of vibrant hues inspires you to shed old habits?
Whatever Autumn brings for you, I hope my Cosy Blend complements the season for you.
Mandarin (Citrus Reticulata)
Calming and comforting, useful for calming fractious children. I also chose this for its sweet, citrus aroma which uplifts the spirits and instils a sense of joy.
Frankincense (Boswellia Sacra)
A wonderful oil in times of transition, it has a calming and uplifting effect. It is rejuvenating to the skin and also has a mildly expectorant effect making it useful for seasonal coughs and colds.
Vetiver (Chrysopogon Zizanoides)
With a warming fragrance that reminds me of treacle and log fires, this unctuous oil will not rush out of the bottle but ooze slowly forcing us to slow down, be patient and wait. Its therapeutic properties mirror this as it’s a deeply soothing, grounding oil that helps prepare for a restful sleep but also strengthens the spirit.
Add to a room diffuser and let the aroma fill the air as you snuggle up with a good book or binge a favourite tv show. I recommend diffusing for 20 minutes and then turn off rather than leaving it running until the water runs out.
The oils in this blend are available from my Neal’s Yard Remedies shop.
